Song Choice Research

Song Choice Research:
Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love?

Alicia and I have chosen to pick this song as we wanted to do a song that had a lot of meaning which would allow us to elaborate and have lots of different stories that we could incorporate together.

We originally started to look into this song when we saw the Black Eyed Peas perform at the Ariana Grande concert after the Manchester attack. We realised that the song has lots of different meanings behind it, meaning we could put lots of different stories together and the theme of the music will go with what we want. The song talks about all of the bad things that are happening in the world and the band are asking the audience where the love is and why everyone isn't getting along. We originally had the idea of incorporating an idea of different races, ethnicities and sexuality into the music video as this is something that still to this day isn't equal in all countries. The song is extremely emotional and makes us both think about all the bad things that are happening in the world which makes it thought provoking for us and the audience.

We have the idea that Alicia standing in front of a black screen which is similar to the 2016 remake of the music video. We will also have images of war and other incidents that have happened behind Alicia when she is standing. The video will at the start be black and white to show the anger and disasters that are happening to connect the audience and then by the end of the video the video will be in colour again with images over Alicia's  face to show the change to happiness and solidarity that they want to change.

We also want to film some parts of the music video in London as it has a lot of good filming places and also a lot of terrible things have happened in London itself. For example, the terrorist attack that happened on London Bridge, we will go to London Bridge and film a clip of us paying our respects to the victims. We will hold a sign saying "where is the love" where we will show at the key London places (London Bridge, embankment and the tube).

Original music video 2009

There are 2 versions of the song that have been made into a music video, the first is the original .The other version is a charity music video that we are interested in looking into more than the original as it gets across to the audience a better image of the different thing that are happening in the world. Especially in the remake of the music video they have made the editing of the clips together slow to give the audience time to think about what is happening and make them feel emotion of every word. Alicia and I were especially taken aback by this song as it gave a lot of emotion through the use of lyrics and the images. The aspect of the music being in black and white created this dull, emotional atmosphere.

Remake of the music video 2016:

Ariana Grande One love Manchester concert 2017:

In the music video for "where is the love" the clips are edited to make them look slow to make the audience feel connected to what is being shown and make the audience feel emotion to every word.
