Cutting music

Cutting of the music:

In today's lesson we decided to cut the music so that next lesson we can print out the lyrics and go through section by section to plan out what we are going to do at each point of the song. I downloaded the song from YouTube and uploaded it to iMovie. Although, the music video was attached to the music, Alicia who is more experienced at using iMovie said that she is able to detach the video from the music at a later date once it was edited.

The full version of the song is more than 5 minutes long so we decided that it would be best if we cut the music down to a more reasonable time of roughly 3 minutes. We decided this because we felt that we will be able to film to this time better as we can makes sure that each shot is well thought and looks perfect. We like the end part of the song where there is a choir that sings, as I have previously said in a blog. With this being said, we wanted to make sure the cut was as smooth transition as possible. We found this quite difficult to do and it took us quite a long time taking it in turns trying to find a point of the song that sounded similar. We decided to cut the song from the start of the chorus at 2 minutes 29 seconds and cut it to "where is the love" near the end of the song as we could then cut it to the choir which is in the last 20 seconds of the song. Cutting from the chorus to the choir at the end of the was the hardest cut to do as we couldn't get it exactly on the point which sounded smooth. Alicia and I both tried to slow the music down and cut at different points of the music to make sure that the transition was as good as possible. We finally found a point that we were happy with that connected the two clips together well. As we had spent so much time cutting the music we decided to get somebody from our class to listen to the music and point out the points where the music had been cut. She wasn't able to point the part of the music that it had been cut so we decided that it was good enough.

Overall, we are very happy with the points of the music that we have chosen to cut it and have decided that we are going to keep it like this and plan from where the lyrics have been cut.

Alicia knew how to detach the music video from the music so we were able to use the music to start filming ours. When we managed to detach the video from the music we realised that the music went a bit fuzzy so we will be looking into this to make sure that it stays at the same high definition.
