Location Poster

Location Poster:

We both talked and agreed that doing a location poster would be a good way of planning out what tubes and trains that we will need to take when we go to London. I researched what trains and tubes we need to get and Alicia made the poster. The poster will help us to be able to have a clear idea and plan of how we are going to get to the different locations that we are going to do. For example, we made a plan of the different places we are going by meaning we do the furthest place (Grenfell) first and then moving to central London to do the main filming at Embankment.

We got a picture of the London underground and looked at all of the places that we wanted to go to.

Day 7 Editing

Day 7 Editing:

In today's lesson we went over all of the music video and asked our teacher to pick out any parts of our music video that could be improved. For example, the first part that she picked out was that some of our shots were slightly off centre so to improve this we needed to crop some of the shots to make sure that they were more central. For example, the shot where Alicia is walking up the stairs the shot is positioned slightly to the left. Also, the shot where Alicia and Matthew are standing the shot is also slightly to the left. We managed to edit this with the different shots successfully, which we are really happy about.

After we had edited the small adjustments that needed to be made we were overall very happy with everything that we had so we decided that we were going to upload it to YouTube next lesson as we feel that everything that we have looks effective.

Day 6 Filming and Editing

Editing Part One:

In today's lesson we started to carry on editing all of the clips that we have got to see which ones we could improve and so on. One thing that hasn't been right is the change in music as it seems to have been moved accidently. Alicia, managed to cut the music at a better point to make the music overall flow better and sound more effective. However, this did mean that we added an extra amount onto the song meaning we had gaps of clips that we needed to film. Having split the shots of the chalk writing last lesson we decided to split this further to make it last for a longer amount of time. We tried making some shots longer but we realised that we had to much of a gap to fill at the end. We decided to go back on our original idea of having a reverse near the end of all of the shots that we have got. Furthermore, we still had quite a few little gaps throughout the music video so we came up with the idea of a few things. The first idea was using some more chalk and the other was some scenic views.

Filming:

As we had roughly 4 small gaps to fill we decided to get some more chalk and draw a few love hearts around the school which would look effective in the video. One of the mainly successful shots that I was extremely happy with was a behind the shoulder shot of Alicia drawing a love heart on a tree and the sun glistening in front of her. Furthermore, we decided to shoot a few scenic views of Alicia standing which will look good for the quick shot changes of location. We also did a good shot on a bench which again will look effective as it can be used with a quick shot change.

Editing Part Two:

Once we had filmed the extra shots we imported them onto final cut pro and started to add them to the gaps that we had. Overall, we are very happy with the way that these shots look and happy that they flow with the rest of the shots we have. At the end of the day I wasn't able to stay so Alicia stayed and edited the reverse clip at the end of the video and informed me that it looks really good.

Alicia managed to sort the music edit out and make it sound like it flows better and it sounds easier to watch.

Next lesson, we will be making small adjustments that need to be made and looking over any shot that we think may need to be brightened and stabilized. (mainly the shots in London and the shots with both Alicia and Matthew.)

Day 5 Filming and Editing

Day 5 Filming:

Today, in our media lesson we went to C block to film the parts of the music video with Matthew and Alicia again. We decided to use my phone camera to film as the quality of the phone is very high and we believe that when we have previously filmed using my phone it has come out really well. When we got to C block we decided that we wanted to change the background from black to white as we think that this will improve the blurriness of the shots and increase the quality of the movements.
Similarly to yesterday we played the music in the background to make it easier to lip sync to and made sure that we filmed the same parts as yesterday. We made sure to check the shots each time to make sure that they were high quality to use.

In addition to filming Matthew and Alicia's individual shots we decided to film Alicia's projection shots. We filmed this using the projector in our media room as it is quite big and shows the pictures really clearly. We put up images of terrorist attacks that have happened and Alicia stood in front of it. We found this difficult as the shadows were continuously in Alicia's face so we had to make sure that Alicia was stood in the correct place so that you could see her face fully.

As well as this in the parts of the music video where we had small gaps to fill throughout and the large part at the very end of the music video Alicia had the idea of using chalk to write Where is the Love someone around school. This was a really good idea and we decided to look around school to find a place where we could write on the floor. I filmed Alicia writing the words at different angles, for example, behind the shoulder shot, low angle and high angle which I think looks really successful and makes it look like it can be used throughout. At the end of the music video we waned to film the Where is the Love and I walk back with the camera as Alicia finishes writing it. This is a very good idea of fading out the end of the song and is a thought provoking image to end with.

Day 5 Editing:

Firstly, we imported all of the clips from the chalk writing onto the computer and added it at key points where we had gaps. We added the walking back of the words at the end of the music video and we are very happy with the way that it turned out. Alicia had the idea of making the clip faster which I think makes it look even more effective as a way to finish the video. Overall, we are very happy with the way that this turned out.

Next, we uploaded all of the clips that we filmed of Alicia and the projection on final cut pro and added them to the particular places in the music that we wanted them to go. These clips are very dark due to the shadows but we feel that they create a sad atmosphere which we are trying to convey. We added these to the right place in the song and we are happy with how they turned out.

Finally, we both deleted all of the clips that we filmed yesterday of Matthew and Alicia and imported the new ones that we filmed today. We were immediately happy with the clips as they were a lot less blurry and they looked really effective. It was very difficult editing the clips to the exact place of the lip sync but we are very happy with the places that we made it to be on the point of the lyrics. We will finish editing these clips next lesson to make sure that they all look effective and are in exactly the right place.

We also edited some other clips. For example, the reverse of the bus as we felt that the change in the reverse was a little bit off so we wanted to make sure that the transition was fluent.

We are very happy with everything that we did today and we will continue to edit these parts of the music video and clips elsewhere to make sure that they are perfect.

Day 4 Editing

Filming Day 4:

Today, at lunch Alicia and I managed to film the parts of the song that we wanted to film with Matthew as we wanted him to sing the main lyrics of the song as they're sung mostly by men. We managed to set the lights up as they were before and this time we borrowed a try pod which made it a lot easier to have the camera at the same position each time that we filmed.

As I previously made a sheet of all of the lyrics that we needed Matthew to film it made it easy for Matthew to know exactly what he needed to film. To help him know exactly when to sing we played the song lyrics in the background so it made it easier for him to lip sync. We decided to use the black background as this is what we want throughout our music video to make it look emotional and make people connect to it.

Editing:

In the lesson today we added all of the clips that we had filmed into final cut pro and added the clips to the parts of the song that we wanted him to be singing for. As we were importing the clips we noticed that some of the clips were wobbly and blurry this is because Matthew was moving around a lot which made the camera wobble a lot more than we wanted. Therefore, we decided to see if making the brightness of the clips helped with making it less blurry which it did slightly.

When we added all of the clips we talked and decided that the blurriness of the clips where to noticeable so we decided we were going to have to film a few of the clips with Matthew and Alicia again. This is very frustrating but we believe that by filming it again it will improve it and make the video all round the same quality of filming.

We are looking at filming tomorrow at some point again with Matthew.

Day 4 filming

Day 4 Filming:

We are going to film at lunch today 14th of December the individual singing of Alicia and Matthew who are the main singers in the music video. Matthew has agreed that this date and time is good and has assured us he is able to do this time. We are going to go earlier to make sure that the lighting and black background is all set up and looks similar to when we filmed the others individual parts. Obviously this isn't what we wanted and it will be hard but we have to do it to make it work. Previously, we marked out the parts of the song that Matthew and Alicia are going to sing so all we will have to do is play the song in the background at the parts that they're singing to make it easier.

Day 3 Editing

Day 3 Editing:

Today, we put into the music video all of the clips that we had filmed of each of the individual filming. We noticed that the lighting was a problem again like last time as they all turned out having different coloured backgrounds. Looking at all of the clips that we got we did like a few of the clips. For example, the shots where they stood still, Emily's lips syncing and the others singing "Where is the love?". We put these clips into the music video had to adjust the stability of each of the clips as they were a bit shaky. Overall, we are happy with the stabilisation of the clips and the way that they have turned out. One thing that we are happy about the clips as they're mostly filmed in the same place meaning the continuity of the clips looks really effective with the new background.

One of the individuals that is the main part of our music video didn't turn up so we have had to arrange another day when we can film with him and Alicia.

Day 3 Filming

Day 3 filming:

Prier to filming we made a list of all of the blank spaces in the music video that we needed to film the individual people. We made a list of each of the people that we are going to use in the music video and what we wanted each of the people to singing how we want them to stand. We did this by looking at the parts of the music video where we didn't have anything to fill it and we looked at what we could get people to sing to fill the blank parts of the video.

As I mentioned previously, we decided to re film everybody's individual shots as we were unable to  make the shots less blurry and change the green screen background to black. We looked around the school for a better background and we found that in art block they had a black backdrop which would really help us with the editing. The only part of there black backdrop that would impact our filming quality is the lighting so we were able to use some lighting to make sure that the shots we got were clear and not wobbly. We filmed each of the individual people again and made sure that they did each of the things that we needed them to do.

Day 2 Editing

Day 2 Editing:

Today, we edited the shots that we got when we went to London to film and put them into places in the song that we think they fit best. Next lesson we are going to edit some clips to make them less shaky and stabilise them to make them look better when watching them in full screen. We are planning on Thursday to film the people again singing Where is the Love as this will complete the music video more and will be easier to edit when we have these in the timeline of the music video. Overall, we are very happy with the shots that we filmed as they're a variety of shots and different angles and look very effective with the music. Furthermore, the lip syncing shots that we filmed we think fit really well with the music which we are extremely happy with. Also, while in London we filmed a few unplanned shots of different scenic views which we have added into the music video and look really effective with the music and setting the scene at the beginning of the music video. However, some of the shots are slightly blurry so we are going to look at editing them and adding a filter to make them less blurry.
